Tales By The Window

Tales By The Window is a series of photographs captured from my window in East Harlem during the COVID-19 pandemic. Living in one of New York City’s most diverse neighborhoods, I found the nighttime scenes outside my window to be mesmerizing. Each evening, I sat by the window, observing the world around me, while the media flooded with phrases like “COVID-19,” “pandemic,” and “death toll.” The weight of those words pushed me to disconnect from the news and instead focus on the world in front of me—through my window.

The days felt still, but the nights were alive with movement and energy. I became fascinated by the colors, shapes, and dynamics unfolding outside my window, as if the city’s pulse had shifted from the day’s quiet to a hidden rhythm in the dark. As I photographed, I was conscious of my role as an observer. I wanted to capture these moments without intruding on the lives of others, so I deliberately avoided showing faces. My goal was to create scenes that left room for interpretation, inviting viewers to weave their own stories from the fragments I offered.

Tales By The Window is a collection of fleeting glimpses into a world that was both familiar and unknown—quiet yet full of unseen narratives. Through these photographs, I hope to spark curiosity and reflection, allowing the viewer to imagine the lives and experiences unfolding just beyond their own windows.
